How to get your site to load faster

Smush.ItIf you’re like me, you have a busy life and you don’t like waiting for ages for a web page to load before you can read it, and if it takes too long you find yourself clicking away.

If you have lots of images on your website then chances are you’re losing lots of customers if your site is slow to load, so how do you fix this problem?

There is a way (well, two in fact!) to help shrink the size of your uploaded images without affecting their quality.  And it’s as simple as:

  1. Turning your image into a smaller one by running it through http://www.gracepointafterfive.com/punypng which will compress your fies for you.  Save the new, smaller file on your computer then you can upload it to your site.
  2. Installing a plugin called Smush.it.  Just go into the Plugins section of WordPress, then Add New and type in Smush.it and it’ll come up for you to install.  This plugin automatically “smushes” (is that a real word??) any image you upload, as you upload it.

Following these steps means that your images will not use up as much memory to load, and your web pages will therefore upload a lot quicker for you.

Cool huh? Oh, and if you’re wondering what the emu picture attached to this post has to do with anything, well it doesn’t – I just love that photo!  hehe!
